Grab a chair, you won’t believe this. (Journal Endorses McCain)

October 30, 2008

We don’t know when the Winston-Salem Journal got half a brain, but maybe they found one while they were trying to find out why their sales are so far down.  Anyhowsomeever, they just endorsed John McCain for President and we are flabbergasted!

Election ’08: President

“The Journal sides with McCain because he better suits this newspaper’s underlying editorial philosophy of limited government intrusion into the lives of American citizens, low taxes and fiscal responsibility. There is nothing in the character of Obama that makes us think he is unfit to be president. To the contrary, we admire much about the man. We just disagree with the course upon which he is likely to lead this nation.”

Special Request to Make “Keep Your Money” Phone Calls Tonight

October 29, 2008

Several months ago, Senator Obama broke his own promise to the American people to participate in public financing alongside John McCain. Tonight, Senator Obama will use the money he has raised from breaking that promise to air a 30 minute informercial.

We have no doubt his words will be eloquent, but we do not believe he will tell you the truth. His teleprompter will say that he will cut taxes for 95% of Americans, but the unscripted truth is that he will take and redistribute your hard earned money (i.e. “spread the wealth around”).

To spread the truth during this 30 minute commercial, we are asking everyone to make “keep your money” calls to voters. Our goal is to make thousands of phone calls during that the thirty minute time period so that we can deliver the truth about Obama’s plans to “spread the wealth around.”

Please join us in this effort. You can help in one of two ways:

Go volunteer at your Local Victory Office
Use our Voter2Voter Phone Bank to make calls from home

We only have 7 days left to stop Senator Obama from spreading the wealth around. Take action today!

John McCain: I’m Joe the Plumber

October 28, 2008

A Wilkes County Note, From Sam Stroud

October 28, 2008

Fellow supporters of the McCain / Palin ticket and other GOP candidates,

We are down to the last week of this campaign, and we really need your help.  I am asking each of you to get outside your comfort zone and volunteer as much time as you can, to help bring out votes for our ticket that wouldn’t otherwise be there.  We can party next Tuesday night, but let’s work now to make sure we have plenty to party about then.

Several of you have helped in recent weeks with phone banks, and the results have been encouraging.  While we did get a few rude hang-ups, the support for McCain / Palin was strong among the voters on our computer-generated Wilkes County call lists.  We are also “selling” our other GOP candidates in these calls, at all levels from Elizabeth Dole to Shirley Randleman.

The people we are calling now are registered Republican and Unaffiliated voters who have a history of not voting often.  And while OVER FIVE THOUSAND WILKES VOTERS have been called so far, there are many more voters we haven’t contacted yet.

In the remaining days of the campaign we are cranking up maximum effort every day in our phone banks at the regional GOP Victory office in Boone.  This has already begun and will continue right through election day.  LET ME URGE YOU TO VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME – three hours, three days, or anything in between – to help with this effort.

VOLUNTEER by email to me or calling me (my #s are at the end).  If possible, PLEASE SIGN UP FOR A SPECIFIC DAY(S) AND TIME SLOT(S) so there will be enough phones to go around.  Here are the time slots:  9:00 to 12:00 noon, noon to 3:00 pm, 3:00 to 6:00 pm, and 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  On election day the last slot will be 3 to 7 pm.

If none of those times are good for you, we will find a way to work you in.  For your convenience I will be arranging car pools to Boone as much as possible.

We will also be conducting a door-to-door campaign in Wilkes County, using computer-generated target lists.  If you are interested in doing this on Thursday or later, please contact Amy McMillion at keephimfirst@aol.com or 336-903-1500 (email preferred).

On election day we will be offering rides to the polls for people who need them, preferably voters who will support our ticket.  If you can help ferry voters, please contact me or Carolyn Miller.  Voters needing rides can call GOP headquarters at 667-0262.  We will have an answering machine there to take messages over the weekend.

Thanks to Shirley Randleman who reminded me that voters can STILL REQUEST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT ON TUESDAY (10/28) which is THE LAST DAY to do so.

Citizens wishing to vote early who are not yet registered, can show up for early voting with a driver’s license and a couple of utility bills bearing their name and address.

On a different note, if you have a business in Wilkes County with several phones and would be willing to let us run a phone bank there after normal business hours, please let me know.  This would allow us to do some phoning without traveling to Boone.

Finally, I am not trying to “steal” anyone from any other pre-election event that you are already committed to, or want to attend.  There are several events coming up this week, as you know.  People who are currently running for office should work on their own campaigns rather than the phone banks, of course.

Thank you in advance for your help in taking the McCain/Palin ticket to victory, as well as our other excellent GOP candidates.  I don’t have time to chase everybody individually by phone, so please contact me and tell me what you want to volunteer to do, and when you can do it.
Best regards,  – Sam

CONCORD Alan Perez, a small-business owner hoisting a sign that read, “Fight for Joe the Plumber,” was just the kind of voter Republican John McCain was looking for at Saturday’s rally in Concord. … http://www.charlotteobserver.com/408/story/263293.html
