McHenry, Foxx question czar count

August 11, 2009

By Jim McNally | Statesville R&L

Published: August 12, 2009

Both of Iredell County’s Congressional representatives believe the present White House has gone czar crazy.

While top aides actually have more official sounding titles, the term “czar” has been used since the Nixon administration as a shortcut for the top person on a policy, issue or department.

In response to a question from the audience about the matter at his town hall meeting in Mooresville on Monday night, Rep. Patrick McHenry said President Barack Obama had added so many new top aides that he couldn’t keep count of them.

Iredell Reagan Day Smash Hit

March 25, 2009

On Saturday, March 7th, approximately 200 Iredell Republicans gathered for the Iredell County Republican Party’s annual Reagan Day Dinner at the Statesville Civic Center. The guest speaker was Dr. Mike Adams, acclaimed nationally syndicated columnist.

The Party also held its annual precinct meetings and county convention that evening, with the highest turnout for each in years.

“It was invigorating to see new folks getting involved for the first time on March 7th. It’s a good time to be a Republican in Iredell and it folks are already energized for the 2010 election cycle,” said Charlton Allen, Chairman of the Iredell County Republican Party.

Auxiliary Leadership Meeting held:

The leaders of the auxiliaries of the Iredell Republican Party met on Wednesday, March 18th in a roundtable (geometric purists will note the actual tables were rectangular) discussion of issues facing the clubs. The club leaders plan to meet again in late May, and at least once a quarter.

Some of the items discussed were:

The importance of working with County GOP and with the other auxiliaries.
How the auxiliary clubs can work together and coordinate activities, including joint meetings, projects and speakers.
How the auxiliaries should be the proving ground for new leaders and the staging area for recruitment and growth.
How the auxiliaries can work together to promote more cooperation.
That the auxiliaries and the County GOP are on the same team and working towards the same goals.
Planning a joint project to rally support against Obama’s economic and tax programs.
That it was important for the club leaders to continue to coordinate activities and meet together regularly to continue their strategic planning together.

Ideas were exchanged on how each club can reach out to more members.
The clubs discussed ways to implement “new media” (e.g. websites, Facebook, MySpace) to broaden their outreach efforts.
There was discussion on how the County GOP can assist the auxiliaries, including dealing with problems the Teenage Republicans have endured with schools limiting their efforts.
Iredell Young Republicans meeting tonight:

Just a reminder of the next Iredell County Young Republican Meeting TONIGHT, March 24 at Brooklyn Boys in Mooresville. As always, feel free to arrive at 6:30 PM to order food and hang out. The meeting will be begin at 7 PM.

Last month we had almost 20 people attend our meeting to hear NCGOP Chairman Linda Daves speak. So bring a friend with you and let’s add to that number on March 24! See you then!

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole is rolling out the big guns — in the form of a big bus — in her effort to hold off Democratic rival state Sen. Kay Hagan and keep her seat for a second term.

Joined by U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, Dole made Statesville a stop on her campaign’s “Elizabus Tour” on Wednesday afternoon. She was greeted by a crowd of about 200 supporters at the Iredell County Republican Party headquarters.
